Your Brother Will Rise
I understand how hard it can be when it feels like you’re losing someone to the allure of substances or to whatever brings temporary happiness. It’s heartbreaking to see how quickly the core values of our faith seem to be set aside these days. Sadly, family life isn’t always treasured as it should be, and marriage can sometimes be viewed as whatever you make of it. Remember, you’re not alone in these feelings.
Picture Martha and Mary mourning Lazarus — their profound, heartfelt grief. Now, imagine many today feeling a similar longing, but on a spiritual level. When someone distances themselves from their relationship with Jesus, they often lose sight of His true presence in the Body and Blood. Without faith in it, worship becomes more difficult. That’s why many people stop attending Mass. It’s a powerful reminder of how vital faith and belief are.
Jesus lovingly told Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in Me, even if he dies, will live, and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die.” Then He gently asked her a personal question, “Do you believe this?”
Jesus has all authority in heaven and on earth, but He lovingly respects each person’s free will to believe in Him. For example, Jesus kindly raised Lazarus and brought him back to his family. Think of someone who might have wandered away from the Catholic faith in Jesus.
Gospel Challenge:
Imagine yourself like Martha, trusting in Jesus. When speaking to Him, share her heartfelt words: “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now, I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.” Embrace these words as your own in your heart as you share them with Jesus.
Now listen to Jesus’ response, “Your brother will rise.” When you pray for someone who no longer believes or practices the faith, hold fast to Jesus’ words. Trust His promise and believe that His love can bring a new heart and new life to those you care about.
