The Dots in Our Lives
Do you remember those dot-to-dot coloring books where you connect numbered dots to reveal a picture? I used to trace the dots in order and then watch the image emerge.
Reading today’s gospel made me think of those books. Imagine what the picture would look like if I didn’t know numbers and connected any dots I chose.
In today’s gospel, Jesus explains how we can link the dots in our lives. Take a moment to picture the dots in a coloring book as representing different parts of your life.
Some of the dots represent our relationship with God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In contrast, others illustrate our connection with the Church and all its related relationships and activities.
Some of the dots depict family members and different friendships, while others relate to our work and leisure choices.
Today, Jesus teaches us in the gospel that He knows how to connect all the aspects of our lives, enabling us to find eternal life even here on earth. Consider the Law and the Church’s teachings as the lines Jesus uses to connect different parts of our lives.
The final words Jesus spoke before His ascension were, “Behold, I am with you always until the end of the world” (Matthew 28:20). The word “Always” highlights the continuous connection Jesus maintains with us, linking each moment in our lives through His Presence. Even the tiniest detail of the Law reflects the smallest aspects of our lives that He desires to bear with us, offering comfort and security.
Gospel Challenge:
Start your mornings by cherishing a few special moments with Jesus. Allow His commandments and Church teachings to inspire you to hand Him the pencil, and observe what unfolds. This way, you’ll experience life in its fullest sense.
